I am an expert in persuading people to do stuff. Seriously, I have a Masters Degree in persuasive communications from the University of South Carolina, and have spent over 2 years studying from an academic perspective what makes people take action. Sales letters are a curious thing, they are often long, and most of the time full of boring redundant information. Moving down south about 5 years ago I remember one of the first new terms I heard was “off the chain” and I couldn’t figure out what it meant. Was something good if it was off the chain, or was it bad, or maybe the thing was mislead? I had to get enlightened by one of my country buddies that off the chain meant phenomenal. It was so good, the chain could no longer hold it down. I did this sales letter a few years ago, it is more narrative than it is to the point, but it seemed to fit the product. This sales letter does a good job of pointing out the usefulness of the product to the customer’s life, and helping them to take action and buy it.

A lot of people just do not get it. They think sales letters should be full of blocks of generic business lingo text mixed with stock images of Ferrari convertibles and bikini glad ladies sipping tropical cocktails. Sorry Jack, that’s the worst idea I have ever seen when it comes to sales letters. It looks cheap, it makes the site look like a piece of junk, and most notably it does not work.
